Bluebird Walk

feeding bluebird

Spring is here which means new nests at Blackacre. Bird expert Phil Tamplin will be joining us Saturday morning to give us some insight into the lives of these helpful garden friends.  After a short educational program we will be taking a hike to visit the numerous bluebird boxes on the property to check on the resident population.  This hike will be easy and suitable for all age and skill levels.  After our hike stick around to make your own bluebird box to take home for your backyard.  All materials will be provided.  Please dress for the weather including appropriate footwear.

Moon Lit Hike with Don Spain

tree

This will be the first moon lit hike of the season.  Hikers will be guided through Blackacre’s meadows and trails by the Louisville Astronomical Societie’s Don Spain.  As a  volunteer naturalist, astronomer and trail scout Don works with Blackacre and the Bernheim Arboretum as well as the Louisville astronomical society helping people explore the natural world around them.  Besides leading our moon lit hikes Don is also out at the homestead several times a year with his telescope educating us about the heavens.

Enjoy the night sky as well as all of the nocturnal residents here and see Blackacre as you never have before, by the light of an almost full moon.  As we traverse Blackacre’s many trails we will be on the look out for owls and bats as well as possums, raccoons and any other wildlife that might be out at night. The hike will be moderate to easy and appropriate to all skill levels.  Please dress appropriately for the weather and make sure that you have comfortable footwear.
